Bowie High Junior to Serve as School Board Student Member

Shabnam Ahmed of Bowie High School will represent more than 30 middle and high schools as student member of the Prince George's County Board of Education.

Bowie High School Junior Shabnam Ahmed has been elected by the Prince George’s Regional Association of Student Governments (PGRASG) to represent more than 30 middle and high schools as the student member of the Board of Education for 2012-2013.

“Shabnam Ahmed’s leadership skills will bring new perspectives in helping us to improve the quality of education for our students,” said Board Chair Verjeana M. Jacobs in a press release.  

According to the release, as a student at Bowie High, Ahmed is a member of the music honor society, math club, poetry club, tennis team, and serves as president of the National Honor Society. Her objectives include allowing outside food vendors into school cafeterias and reinstating middle school sports.

“I appreciate this opportunity and I’m really glad I was able to be voted into this position,” said Ahmed in the press release. “It's a humbling experience for me and I hope to accomplish what I set out to do. I look forward to working with everyone.

Next year’s PGRASG team also includes President Vanessa Debra, Eleanor Roosevelt High School; Vice President Angela Chin, Charles H. Flowers High School; Secretary Gabrielle Rodgers, Suitland High School; and Treasurer Avian Richardson, Central High School.
