Bowie Announces Winners of 2013 Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Contest

The contest was open to all students in Bowie in grades kindergarten through twelve.

More than 300 local students entered the city of Bowie's 2013 Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Contest, and nine talented kids were awarded cash prizes for their efforts. 

The city gave first, second and first place awards in three categories. Each first place winner was awarded $100, second place was awarded $50 and third place was awarded $25. 

Coloring Category (kindergarten through second grade)
First Place:
Haider Syed, kindergarten, Pointer Ridge Elementary School
Second Place:
Jocelyn Gross, first grade, The Lowell School
Third Place:
Samantha Burgess, first grade, Whitehall Elementary School

Poster Category (third through fifth grades)
First Place:
Ankita Gola, fifth grade, Rockledge Elementary School
Second Place:
Karen Gomez-Cordon, fifth grade, Rockledge Elementary School
Third Place:
Jada Avery, fifth grade, Pointer Ridge Elementary School

Video Category (sixth through twelfth grades)
First Place:
Henry Jackson and Kareem Adebisi (joint entry), seniors, Bowie High School
Second Place:
Sarah Kuhnert, senior, home schooled
Third Place:
Sixtus Akinlosotu, junior, Bowie High School
