Board of Education to Host 3 School Budget Hearings

The first hearing will take place tonight, Monday, Jan. 27.

The Prince George's County Board of Education will hold three public hearings on the Fiscal Year 2015 School Budget, the first taking place at 7 p.m. tonight—Jan. 27—in Upper Marlboro.

The community is invited to these hearings to give input and feedback on the proposed budget.

This is the fist budget new PGCPS CEO Kevin Maxwell has presented to the board. The $1.75 billion proposal calls for funds for secondary school reform; expansions for creative and performing arts, French immersion, partial Chinese immersion programs and funds for teacher compensation and career development.

Tonight's hearing will be the first of three. There will also be hearings on Feb. 19 and Feb. 25. All hearings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Sasscer Administration Building Board Room. Sasscer is located at 14201 School Ln. in Upper Marlboro.

All are welcome to attend, but speakers are asked to register in advance and will be limited to three minutes. Anyone who wishes to register to speak should call 301-952-6115 by 4:30 p.m. the day of the hearing.
