10 Students Named Semifinalists in National Scholarship Program

Semifinalists attend Eleanor Roosevelt and Oxon Hill high schools in Prince George's County.

Ten students from Prince George's County Public Schools have been named 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program semifinalists, according to a release by the school district. 

“Congratulations to these students for making it through the first round of the competition,” Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell, chief executive officer for PGCPS, said in a release. “Their hard work is to be commended and is an example to their peers that they, too, can achieve at this level.”

The National Achievement Scholarship program recognizes outstanding achievement in black student. The PGCPS winners were chosen from a pool of more than 160,000 high school juniors based on their performance on the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Following is the list of PGCPS student semifinalists:

  • Oluwakonyinsola Adesoye (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Tania Evans (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Miles Harriston (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Sydney Holman (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Ahmed Kamil (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Chiamaka Ogwuegbu (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Chimdiya Onwukwe (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Jasmine Salters (Eleanor Roosevelt High School)
  • Russell Hawkins (Oxon Hill High School)
