Winners of Martin Luther King Art Contest to be Recognized at Council Meeting
Bowie's City Council will recognize the winning eleven students for their works of art at its meeting next Tuesday at 8 p.m.
The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King is often remembered during Black History Month, but rarely is it brought home like it was with this year's with the topic focusing on his impact on Bowie.
Students in third grade through senior year in high school were asked to create a work of art depicting how "Dr. King's dream was alive in Bowie."
Third through fifth graders created posters, sixth grade through high school was graphic arts and photography. Each of the students also wrote a summary explaining their work and how it represented the dream of Dr. King, and specifically how it related to life in present day Bowie.
