What's Closing for the Holidays?

Here's a rundown of the operation schedules for various Bowie and Prince George's County offices and services during the holidays.

 

With the holiday season here, some of us may have already shut down and are in official hibernation mode until the start of 2012.

Bowie and Prince George's County offices are still at work this week, and many transportation services will be available throughout the holidays. Here's a summarized schedule for various offices and services in the county.

Bowie City offices
Closed Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2. There will be no refuse or recycling collection. Collection resumes on your next regularly scheduled day.

The Bowie Senior Center and city museums are closed both days, while the ice arena and gymnasium are open.

County Government Offices
Closed Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2.

County Schools
All Prince George’s County Public Schools, offices and centers will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Jan. 2, re-opening on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

County Department of Environmental Resources

Operation will be suspended on Monday, Dec. 26, for the following facilities: Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill, Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center, Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site, Household Hazard Waste Acceptance Site, Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Center, and Prince George’s County Yard Waste Composting Facility.

Trash collection in county contracted areas will not occur on Dec. 26, and will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection day. Recycling will operate on a normal schedule on Dec. 26.

Metro Rail and Bus
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will operate extra afternoon trains on Friday, Dec. 23, and Friday, Dec. 30, for customers leaving work early for the holiday weekends.

Metrorail and Metrobus service will operate on regular weekend schedules on Saturday, Dec. 24; Sunday, Dec. 25; Saturday, Dec. 31; and Sunday, Jan. 1. (Metrorail will remain open until 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.)

Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2, Metrorail will operate between 7 a.m. and midnight, and Metrobus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. No track work is scheduled on either weekend.
