Tamarra Thomas Makes Bowie a Little Sweeter

Thomas's business, Mama Cocoa's Delights, was among those honored by the Bowie Chamber of Commerce during its May 11 luncheon.

Mama Cocoa’s Delights owner and r Tamarra Thomas was honored by the Bowie Chamber of Commerce last week as the city’s Small Business of the Year, reported the Gazette.

The Bowie Chamber of Commerce, which boasts 240 members, gives the award each year to a small business that is prospering and growing in the city.

“It was such an honor, and it felt great that other people recognized the work I’m doing back here,” said Thomas to the Gazette.

Mama Coca’s Delights, located in Old Town Bowie, has been open since 2011 and makes toffee, lollipops, cakes and chocolates in her small shop at 13015 9th Street in Bowie.

Businesses were nominated by Bowie residents and the chamber, together with the city of Bowie’s advisory Economic Development Committee, made the final award decisions.

Other award recipients at the chamber’s luncheon included Mom’s Organic Market in Hilltop Plaza, which won Green Business of the Year; Business of the Year went to Grace’s Fortune Restaurant; Mark Torsani, owner of Chesapeake Grill Deli took home Entrepreneur of the Year; and Best Buy in the Bowie Town Center received the Community Service Award for the store’s community involvement, reported the Gazette.
