STORM UPDATE: Mall Closed, PG Schools Cancel Class, Offices Closed

Important Information from Prince George's County:

The Prince George’s County Government is on a delayed opening until 11 a.m., today, with a liberal leave option for all non-essential employees. All county buildings will open at 11 a.m.  Essential personnel must report as assigned.

The Circuit and District Courts will open today at 11 a.m. Staff should report at 10:30.

There will be no classes Friday, Feb. 14, in the Prince George's County school system, according to the district website.

The announcement online said that Friday is a Code Yellow day. Schools and offices are closed. Only emergency personnel must report to work.

After initialing saying The Mall at Prince Georges in Hyattsville would be open at 1 p.m. today, management has sent out an email that the mall will be closed to the public Thursday. "This decision has been made in order to ensure the safety of our shoppers and employees during the storm," the email said.

Here's a list of what's open, closed or running on a modified schedule on Thursday in Prince George's County.

Open/Partially Open

Mall: The Mall at Prince Georges is planning to open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13.

TheBus: The countywide transit service administered by the Department of Public Works and Transportation, will operate with limited service on all routes on Thursday, Feb. 13, with the exception of routes 15 Extended, 23, 25 and 53 that will not be operating. The County’s Call-A-Bus and Senior Transportation services will also not operate on Feb. 13. Transportation for dialysis services will be running on a normal schedule. 

County Offices: Prince George's County Government is open with liberal leave in effect.

Closed

Garbage, recycling collection: All bulky item collection pick-ups scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13, have been suspended and are scheduled to resume on Friday, Feb. 14, and continue through Monday, Feb. 18.bIn addition, all recycling, yard waste and trash collection services have been cancelled for Feb. 13 and will resume on their next regular scheduled collection date. 

PG County Schools: There will be no classes Thursday, Feb. 13, in the Prince George's County school system, according to the district website. Schools will be closed for students and all personnel. All activities and meetings, including the Board of Education meeting, are canceled for Thursday.

Courts: Both the Circuit and District Courts are closed, Thursday, Feb. 13.

State offices: All Maryland state offices and facilities closed at midnight on Feb. 12 through the end of the day shift on Feb. 13. Emergency essential personnel should report as scheduled.

Federal offices: All federal offices in the Washington, D.C., area are closed on Thursday. Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agencies' policies.

Wednesday evening:

Prince George's County Public Schools canceled all activities after school on Wednesday that were student-related.

The cancellation includes evening high school and the District 2 community meeting, according to the announcement from Prince George's County Public Schools.

The County Executive Budget Listening Session at Laurel High School will proceed as scheduled.
