SPEAK OUT: Should a Class be Required to Carry a Handgun?

One Bowie firearms instructor said streets will be safer if an instructional class is required as part of the permitting process.

Last week, , striking down a requirement that anyone applying to carry a handgun have a “good and substantial reason” to do so as unconstitutional.

Bowie firearms instructor Rick Stern told WJAL that business has been booming, but he has some concerns that unless some kind of mandatory training is added to the process of obtaining a concealed carry permit, the ruling could cause more harm than good in the state of Maryland.

"I don't think that it's appropriate that you buy a gun and nobody gives you any professional instruction," Stern told WJLA.
