Snow Emergency Declared in Prince George's County

When the state declares a snow emergency, the law requires certain precautions.

By Jennifer Donatelli

The Maryland State Police, with input from the Maryland State Highway Administration, has declared a snow emergency for most counties in the state, including Prince George's.

Once a snow emergency has been declared, parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes is prohibited, and drivers must use chains on tires that are not all terrain or snow tires, among other restrictions, according to the SHA. Most vehicles are now equipped with all terrain tires. These restrictions are in place until the snow emergency is lifted, the SHA said.

Exceptions can occur while a snow emergency plan, put into place by the county, is in effect. A specific route can be lifted and the remainders of roads in the county still can be under the snow emergency plan.
