Local Officials Will Return Wednesday from Maryland Municipal League Conference in Ocean City

The conference is a way for local leaders to share ideas, learn strategies for dealing with various issues and concerns in town.

Local officials from Prince George's County joined hundreds of Maryland elected officials and municipal staff that support 157 cities and towns and two special taxing districts this week for the Maryland Municipal League's annual conference.

The conference, which started Sunday and will end shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, is the largest annual meeting of municipalities in Maryland.

This year MML celebrates 75 years with the theme of “Working
Together Today for a Successful Tomorrow," and met in Ocean City, MD, where Gov. Martin O' Malley, U.S. Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.) and best-selling author of The Book of Awesome, Neil Pasricha were key speakers.

“The 2011 MML convention will be our best yet,” said Scott A. Hancock, executive director of MML. “As we welcome many new local elected officials, we are proud to be able to foster the exchange of ideas and develop invaluable relationships. This
event offers many opportunities to learn how to work together today to create a successful tomorrow.”

Officials got a chance to take in various lectures from University of Maryland's Academy of Excellence in Local Governance, like reducing roadway costs, the impact of foreclosures on a municipality and emergency preparedness.
