Franklin, Campos Selected to Lead Prince George's County Council

Mel Franklin and Will Campos were selected by their peers to lead the council for the next year.

The Prince George's County Council voted Tuesday to appoint Mel Franklin (D-District 9) as chair and Will Campos (D-District 2) as vice chair. 

Franklin, who serves as chair of the Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee is serving his first term on the council. He's is replacing outgoing chair Andrea Harrison (D-District 5) who served in that position for two consecutive years. 

Campos is currently serving his final term on the council. 

Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker congratulated Franklin and Campos on their appointments. 

“I am confident that my administration will continue to work collaboratively with this new leadership team and the rest of the council as we advocate for the residents of this great county," Baker said in a statement.

He also thanked Harrison and outgoing vice chair Obie Patterson (D-District 8) for their leadership of the council. 

County council chair and vice chair positions are selected by the council members and serve one year terms.
