City Sponsors Art Contests for Kids to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Prizes range from $25 to $100 and the deadline is Jan. 6, 2012.

To honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and raise awareness about his accomplishments, the city of Bowie and the Bowie Diversity Committee are holding their annual visual arts contests for Bowie area students. 

The contests differ depending on the grade of the students, but all seek to teach students about King's legacy.

The deadline for submitting entries is Jan. 6, 2012 at 5 p.m. at , 15901 Excalibur Rd., behind the Bowie Town Center.

The contests are open to all school-age children who live within Bowie city limits or who attend a school in the city of Bowie. Contest details are in the links below. 

Coloring contest:            Kindergarten to grade 2
Poster contest:              Grades 3-5
Photography contest:     Grades 6-12

This year, the poster (grades 3-5) and the photography contests (grades 6-12) emphasize the importance of community service.

The Diversity Committee will hold its annual program honoring King and recognizing the contest finalists on Jan. 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Kenhill Center.
