City Recognizes Outstanding Scholars, Athletes

The City awarded $5,000 in college scholarships to Bowie students and recognized the Bowie High Lady Bulldogs.

The City of Bowie honored a number of high school students Monday night for their successes in the classroom and on the basketball court.

The Bowie City Council congratulated the Bowie High School Lady Bulldogs basketball team on its outstanding season.

With a 23-4 record, it is the first time the program has won more than 20 games in a season. Led by Head Coach Michael Hines, the team also brought home a county regular season title.

The team’s grade point-average was 3.78.

“That’s simply incredible. Congratulations for that alone,” said Councilman Henri Gardner who awarded a city proclamation to the varsity squad.

The team scored more than 100 points in a game for the first time. The junior varsity team went undefeated for the first time with a record of 17-0.
