City of Bowie Facilities Close Early Tuesday, Council Meeting Cancelled

Accumulating snow and increasing snowfall have lead to more closures in the city.

All City of Bowie facilities will be closing early Tuesday in anticipation of the heavy snowfall predicted in the afternoon and evening throughout the region

The city did open as usual Tuesday morning, with liberal leave for employees. According to an alert issued at around 12:40 p.m., the city made the call to close city-run facilities at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

City facilities include:

  • Bowie City Hall
  • The Bowie Senior Center
  • The Bowie Gymnasium
  • The Bowie Ice Arena
  • Kenhill Center
  • City-run museums, including Belair Mansion, Belair Stables, Bowie Railroad Station, Huntington Museum and the Old Bowie Welcome Center

The Bowie City Council meeting scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday night has been canceled. Agenda items will be rescheduled for future meetings, according to Una Cooper, communications coordinator for the city.

Trash and recycling pickup will continue Tuesday as weather permits. The main number at city hall, 301-262-6200, will be answered until 11 p.m. for snow related calls and other City emergencies.
