Bowie State Extends Partnership with EPA

The expansion of the program includes internships, mentoring, research opportunities and potential employment for students and faculty.

The expansion of an existing program will create more opportunities for students and faculty at Bowie State University (BSU).

On Tuesday, BSU President Mickey L. Burnim signed an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa P. Jackson in Washington, DC.

The partnership between BSU and EPA will provide internships, mentoring programs, research projects and employment opportunities.

“By partnering with the EPA, Bowie State University is providing important opportunities for students to gain valuable real-world experience that will prepare them for successful careers in a number of growing fields,” Burnim said in a release. “We are also gaining access to superior research facilities and expert scientists who can add substance to our various science curricula.”

The original partnership was established in September 2009. According to BSU, the new agreement includes the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the College of Business to expand opportunities, including faculty research collaboration with EPA scientists, the development of an environmental science curriculum and community outreach opportunities.
