Baker Files for Re-Election: 'Time to Kick Things Into Overdrive'

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, officially filed to run for re-election on Friday, according to a release from his campaign.

County Council Chairman Mel Franklin, Council Member Derrick Davis, and Council Member Karen Toles announced they are supporting his candidacy for a second term.

“Four years ago Prince George’s County voters gave me their trust and support. I’m proud to say that they’ve been fully engaged in turning a good county into a great one,” Baker said. “We've made the needed changes, so we can get the results we all want. I believe we can do even more by staying focused and intensifying our stride; it's time to kick things into overdrive for a higher quality of life for all of Prince George’s County.”

Baker’s campaign says that during his tenure the county has generated almost $4 billion in economic development—including increased retail shopping choices—improved public safety, reinvigorated the school system, and improved access to healthcare by attracting a Regional Medical Center.

“Since County Executive Baker has taken office, the county has seen off-the-charts economic growth. The crime rate has plummeted, and our schools and neighborhoods are improving,” said Franklin. “We are bringing the world to Prince George's County and I am confident that his continued leadership will produce even more stellar results for our residents. I enthusiastically endorse his re-election."
