UPDATE: BHS Student Charged in Monday Fire

A teenager was charged with arson after a Monday morning fire in a Bowie High School bathroom.

A 15-year-old Bowie High School student was arrested and charged in connection with a fire at the school Monday morning, according to information released by Prince George's County Fire/EMS spokesman Brady.

The fire was contained to a second floor bathroom, but smoke filled an adjacent hallway. Firefighters dealt with the fire and ventilated the smoke, according to Brady.

All students were evacuated and no one was injured.

The male student, whose identity is not being released because he is a juvenile, was quickly identified as a suspect and arrested, according to Brady. He is charged with one count of arson in the first degree, one count of arson in the second degree and reckless endangerment.

The 15-year-old male was released to the custody of his parents on Monday, Brady said.

The fire caused an estimated $500 in damage, according to Brady.
