Thieves Target Teens in 2 Separate Strong Arm Robberies

Three teens were robbed in two separate incidents in Bowie last week.

Three teens were the victims of two separate strong-arm robberies after stepping off their school buses in Bowie last week.

The first robbery occurred on Jan. 8 on Elders Oak Boulevard. According to Bowie police, after getting off the school bus, two boys, ages 15 and 16, were approached by two men wearing ski masks.

The suspects demanded the victims’ shoes, and when the victims refused, the suspects punched the victims in their faces until they fell down. The suspects then removed the victims’ shoes by force and fled the scene, according to police.

Both victims sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention.

The second incident occurred on Jan. 9 at the intersection of Devonwood Drive and the 1500 block of Hall Road. According to the police report, after exiting the school bus, a 14-year-old boy was approach by two unknown men.

One suspect punched the victim in the stomach while the other suspect reached into the boy’s pocket and stole $13 in cash and the victim's MP3 player, said police. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction. Police were notified of this incident by the victim’s mother a few hours after it occurred.

It is unknown if the two strong-arm robberies are connected, and police are still investigating both cases, according to Bowie Police Chief John Nesky.
