Suspects Wield Machete, Handgun During Armed Robbery

The victims were smoking in a playground near Jersey Court in Bowie Friday night when they were approached by the suspects.

Suspects used a machete and a handgun during an armed robbery on Jersey Court in Bowie around 8 p.m. Friday night, according to a recent police report.

The four victims—all in their late teens—told police that they were smoking in the playground behind the homes in the 300 block of Jersey Court. Two men, dressed in black, one wearing a bandana on his face and the other wearing a ski mask, approached the victims. One suspect was wielding a handgun and the other was wilding a machete, according to the report.

At this point, two of the victims ran from the scene. The suspects pointed their weapons at the remaining victims, demanded their money and then fled the scene on foot in the direction of Central Avenue, the victims told police.

Bowie police called for assistance from Prince George's County police K-9 and air units, but they could not be sent to the scene because they were otherwise engaged.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
