2nd Annual Shop with a Cop Program Grows

In the second year of the program, the Bowie Police officers helped 27 children buy presents.

 

The second annual Shop with a Cop program was a resounding success, according to the Bowie Police Department.

The program helps children from economically distressed families buy Christmas presents. On Sunday at the , 22 officers shopped with 27 children for presents.

This was the second year of the program, and last year 19 children were helped.

The police raised $2,760 for the event, including a donation from Target, and each child was given $100 to shop, said Police Cpl. Bennie Henderson.

“What really impressed me was that they weren’t just buying toys for themselves,” said Henderson. “They were also buying gifts for other people.”

Afterward, members of the Bowie Police force helped the children bake cookies, play bingo and wrap presents.

The group then had lunch with food provided by and drinks supplied by Target.
