Police: Woman Endangered Infant, Assaulted Parents with Knife

Kyra Chimere Smith reportedly tried to jump from a window while holding her child after she allegedly assaulted her parents, according to police.

A Bowie woman was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting her parents, threatening to kill her father with a knife and jumping from a second-story window while holding her child, according to police.

Kyra Chimere Smith, 23, faces charges one charge each of first-degree assault, second-degree child abuse, reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure and two counts of second-degree assault, according to online court records.

A release from the Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff states that a warrant for Smith's arrest was dated March 10 and filed by the Bowie Police Department (BPD).

The warrant states that Smith allegedly assaulted her mother and father before grabbing a knife and threatening to kill her father, and then attempted to jump from a second-story window while holding her 1-year-old child. BPD officers were able to restrain her before she jumped.

Smith was apprehended from a Largo residence Monday by sheriff’s deputies and held on $175,000 bond at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections, according to the release. Her bond was lowered to $75,000 Tuesday.

Good questions, Terry. According to a report from Bowie Police, she was placed in custody after the incident and taken to the hospital for an Emergency Petition Service. It is not clear what the circumstances were (if she was at the hospital or at large) prior to her arrest in Largo Monday by sheriff’s deputies. I will see if I can get an answer.
