Police Re-Capture Prison Inmate Who Climbed Razor-Wire Fence to Escape

Larence Godfrey reportedly used blankets to cover razor wire on a fence and escape from an Anne Arundel County prison Monday morning. He was re-captured Monday night in Prince George's County.

A Maryland prison inmate who used blankets to cover razor wire so he could climb over a fence and escape was recaptured Monday night in Prince George’s County.

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says Larence Godfrey escaped just before 5 a.m. Monday from the minimum security Dorsey Run Correctional Facility in Anne Arundel County.

The blankets were spotted around 6:15 a.m. and officials say Godfrey was identified as missing about an hour and half later, reports WJLA TV.

Prince George's County police say officers responding to a tip that Godfrey was at a Hillcrest Heights home surrounded the building and caught Godfrey when he ran out the back, reports WTOP. Authorities say Godfrey has been returned to the prison.

Godfrey, 30, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Prince George’s County Circuit Court in 2002 for attempted murder, according to CBS DC. His expected release date is in October 2016.
