According to the police department's Twitter feed, two motorcycles were racing in the westbound lanes of Goodluck Road when Robert Edward Bailey III, 56, of Cambridge Park Court in Silver Spring lost control and crashed. Bailey was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, investigators said Bailey was westbound on Greenbelt Road when, for reasons which remain unclear, he failed to make a slight curve to the right and hit a curb. He then lost control and struck a guardrail.
