Police: Injured Teen Driver May Have Failed to Stop at Stop Sign

Jeffrey Conner Sinclair is still in critical condition.

Police say a teenage driver who is in critical condition from injuries sustained in a collision near Mt. Hebron High School Thursday may have failed to stop at a stop sign before driving out in front of a Mack truck.

At about 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, police say Jeffrey Conner Sinclair, 18, was driving a Honda Civic out of a Mt. Hebron High School parking lot when he pulled out onto Route 99. Four teenagers were in the car with him, according to police.

According to the preliminary report, police say Sinclair may have failed to stop at the stop sign exiting the school parking lot and did not yield to the right of way of the tree removal service truck, which was traveling westbound on Route 99.

The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old Sykesville man, was not injured.

Sinclair remained in critical condition as of about 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to police. The other teenagers in the car with him were taken to Howard County General Hospital Thursday and released. They are: Justyn Richard Alexander, 17, front seat; Michael Dennis Brooks, 15; Elisha Shannon Brown, 17; and Urek Ali Bradshaw, 16, all male Howard County students.

Investigators say that it does not appear that the truck was speeding.

I drive a fuel truck for a living & believe me, drivers in a hurry, especially kids getting out of a full day of school, constantly pull out in front of trucks because they don't have the patience to get behind a slower moving vehicle. What they don't realize is that we cannot stop our trucks on a dime like a car can no matter how slow we're moving. Maybe they should teach more science in schools so people will learn the basics atleast

Agreed they CAN be dangerous on the road. And their insurance rates are higher, but it isn't just teenage BOYS. And it isn't just teenagers. (HR, sorry, I didn't recognize that you had employed the sarcasm font. ;) ) Maybe school exits should all be traffic light driven with no right on red allowed? Again, prayers for all involved in this.

Instead of attacking my claims using logic and reason, you simply tell me I'm ignorant. Well, at least that approach is less work for you, I guess.
