Police Incidents: 4 Suspects Take Boy's Nike Shoes

Feb. 29
Citizen unarmed robbery

A 12-year-old boy was reportedly robbed of his Nike Galaxy Foamposite shoes on the afternoon of Feb. 29, according to a report from the Bowie Police Department. Police responded to the 4000 block of Eager Terrace.

The boy told police he was walking on a pathway when he was approached from behind by four suspects and one told him to “take off your shoes or there would be some trouble,” according to a police report.

Police said the boy took off his shoes and the suspects—three black males and one black female with a tattoo of lips on her neck—fled on foot.

The Galaxy shoes are so popular that police were called in some areas to help with crowd control when the shoes went on sale recently, according to The Washington Post. The shoes retailed for around $220, but were reportedly sold online for much more.

Feb. 27

The Bowie Police Department increased patrols around after offensive graffiti was discovered Feb. 27. Police encourage anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 301-575-2477 or call the anonymous tip line at 301-575-2008.

Feb. 26
Departmental firearm discharge

An officer shot and killed a dog that reportedly bit a jogger at 7:21 a.m. on Feb. 26, according to a report from the Bowie Police Department.

Police responded to the 12000 block of Bunting Lane, where the victim told officers he was jogging when two dogs approached, and one of the dogs bit his left elbow. The officers reportedly tried to contain the dogs while waiting for Prince George’s County Animal Control to arrive.

The dog that attacked the jogger became aggressive and charged at one of the officers, according to the report. Police said a stun gun was deployed, but did not take effect so the officer was forced to discharge his weapon.

Animal Control recovered the dog's body and took the other dog into custody without incident, according to the report. Police said the owner of the dogs could not be located.
