Police Identify Victim Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Prince George's County Police say a Beltsville man was killed in an Upper Marlboro crash earlier this week.

Prince George’s County Police on Friday released the name of a man killed earlier this week when his SUV hit a tree in Upper Marlboro. 

The victim is 60-year-old Joseph Stone Peterson of Howard Road in Beltsville, police said.

Officers were called to the 11200 block of Croom Road in Upper Marlboro about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a crash involving a sport utility vehicle. Peterson was the driver and only occupant in the SUV; he died a short time later at a hospital.

The preliminary investigation shows Peterson’s vehicle was southbound on Croom Road when, for reasons which remain unclear, he lost control of his SUV. Police said the vehicle left the road and struck a tree.
