Police Identify Pilot, Passengers in Bowie Plane Crash
Alreza Tivay of Washington, Debora Tucker of Alexandria and Seth Sharpe of Laurel all sustained serious injuries in Monday's crash.
Police have released the identities of all three victims in Monday afternoon's plane crash in Bowie, that shut down traffic on Rt. 50 for several hours in both directions.
The pilot and owner of the plane has been identified as Alireza Tivay, 58, of Washington, DC. The passengers were Deborah A. Tucker, 48, of Alexandria, and Seth Sharpe, 45, of Laurel.
When police arrived on the scene, they removed Tucker from the plane, and she was transported to Prince George's County Hospital Center via ambulance to be treated for her injuries.
Tivay and Sharpe were both trapped in the plane. Once freed, they were transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center to be treated for critical injuries.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe that Tivay's single engine Mooney model M20 four seat aircraft began losing altitude shortly after it took off from Freeway Airport in Bowie Monday afternoon.
The plane crossed east and westbound Rt. 50, and then crashed into trees off the shoulder of westbound Rt. 50, police said. Traffic was closed in both directions for several hours as a result of the crash.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by federal authorities, police said.
