Police Collect 265 Pounds of Drugs at Saturday's Take Back Event

Saturday's event was part of a nationwide effort to remove unused prescription medications from medicine cabinets.

Saturday's prescription drug take back event in the City of Bowie netted 256 pounds of prescription and non prescription drugs, according to a release issued by the City of Bowie Police Police Department.

The event was held in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and was part of a national effort. City police collected unused, expired and unwanted medications at the police station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

"Prescription drug abuse is quickly becoming one of the biggest public safety issues law enforcement officials encounter. On behalf of the City of Bowie Police Department, I would like to personally thank everyone for their continued support and participation in this program," Bowie Police Sgt. Bennie Henderson said in a statement.
