Police Charge 5 Teens With Burglary, Vandalism

The charges stem from an early morning incident at Bowie High School on March 19.

Bowie police arrested five area teens on burglary and vandalism charges in relation to a break in at Bowie High School, according to a police report.

Police give this account of the incident:

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 19, Bowie police were responding to a report of suspicious individuals on Moylan Drive.

While enroute, there was an alarm call at Bowie High School. Upon investigation, police found that the suspicious parties had gone into two trailers at the high school via open windows. Once inside, the suspects vandalized the property, damaged equipment, and sprayed a fire extinguisher throughout both trailers.

Five suspects were apprehended on the scene—Jounel Washington, 19, of Bowie; Brandon Ford, 19, of Largo; Edgar Cruz-Gutierrez, 19, of Bowie; Bridgette Metcalf, 19, of Glenn Dale; and Dana Leonso, 19, of Bowie.

All five were arrested and charged with burglary and vandalism.

2:30 am? on a Tuesday morning Nice to see the parents of PG county are watching their kids closely, typical of PG youth, no worries they will be charged as adults and will be visiting family very soon in jail.

Good job, BPD!

They were not children! They were grown men behaving like children.

{Change the city and county} (Bethesda/Mont. Cty) and your comment would have read .. " oh, just some spring break kids getting out of hand, I am sure their parents will take away their cell phones and set them straight....this doesnt normally happen here, because we are perfect.......

We have all done stupid things in the past. Everyone that has commented on this article can agree to this, so let them be, locking them up will only show them to do more wrong. The justice system in this county is some garbage instead of helping them it only makes them worst .
aliah March 28, 2013 at 04:22 AM
They are some garbage as well. They think they are the best, but all there good for is emptying a box of Dunkin' Donuts jumbo size boxes!
aliah March 28, 2013 at 04:35 AM
Why are they thug rats because their names aren't Johnathan Baker and there skin isn't the color of your sealing, The only STRONG MESSAGE TO SEND TO THESE TEENAGE KIDS IS TO HELP THEM NOT "throw the book at these thug-rats." Take another approach be a symbol of hope closing the door will only make things worse than before.

ARE U KIDDING! Let them be...that's a joke. Do you know what Bowie would be if they didn't pay the consequences for their crimes? The reason why these teenagers keep doing stupid things is because 9 out of 10 times the courts do let them go. Most of the crime commited in Bowie is done by teenagers. They live in Bowie or they come from other areas just to commit crimes. They get far to many chances!

aliah - your attitude is exactly why the repeat offenders exist and continue to contribute to the downfall of Bowie. Nip it in the bud and address the issue before it is further out of control. Perhaps lockup isn't the real answer but a boatload of community service for the first time offenders just might help them make wiser decisions next time. The justice system is too liberal, thus the revolving doors. If it's garbage it's because it's choking on an entitled population that is too damned lazy to work for what they want. BTW - it's 'ceiling' not 'sealing'.

i agree with a aliah. the people on here woulnt be saying anything negative if their children were the ones who commited the crime so why judge? her attidude is definetly not the reason why people commit crimes again its because of people like you that alway critisize when YOU DONT KNOW. all your going on is what a stupid article is saying, that was ment to infrom you not to put your two cents in and judge. and i definetly dont think its appropriate for the teens whole names to be put out there.
aliah March 28, 2013 at 04:53 PM
Trish c and sharp shooter.- You wonder why more crimes get committed perhaps its because no one will step up to the plate and really show these young people the way instead what you really show them is what you reap and wonder why your mothers house got robbed or perhaps wonder why your brother got murdered maybe that young person you were talking about a few years back could of been helped but no you shut the door, we need to start making changes You all have a lot to learn Trust me!

It is well known that many criminals got lousy parenting, but some of them did not. I am not judging the parents. These 'youth' who are nearly adults, should have a good sense of what is right and worng. They are not two yearolds taking candy from a store while theri parent's heads are turned the other way. Clearly these crimes were planned, and the consequences for criminal behavior should have a strong deterent effect. This is not about race at all, it is about consequences for criminal behavior. Lest have them go to adult court, and hope they get more than a slap on the wrist so it will be their last visit to court as a criminal defendant.
Sharp Shooter March 29, 2013 at 01:24 PM
aliah - 'because nobody will step up and really show these young people the way'. You are a fool. It is solely the parents responsibility to raise these children and instill proper values. You need to remember that it is not the police force's, school's, nor my responsibility. At their age, these young adults (not kids) knew exactly what they were doing and chose to do it. I have made poor decisions in the past and have paid my dues for them. My kids are not perfect and I dread the day the police call me because of something stupid they did - I'll cross that river when I get there. I will also take responsibility of those actions and not try to pass the buck, which is way too common in this blameless society.
