Police Nab Armed Robbery Suspect After High-Speed Chase

The chase ended when the suspect was involved in a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Interstate 495, according to police.

Bowie police nabbed an armed robbery suspected on Thursday following a high-speed chase that spanned several miles and ended with a single-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 495, according to a police report.

Just after 9 p.m. on May 2, a Bowie police officer was conducting a routine check at Pointer Ridge Plaza. Employees of the Pizza Hut flagged the officer down and told him they had just been robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing motorcycle helmet, grey sweatpants and a black jacket. This victims also told the officer the suspect was riding a motorcycle.

The officer then saw a man matching the victim’s description leaving the area at “a high rate of speed” on a motorcycle. The officer drove after the suspect  and requested backup. Available police officers responded to help with the chase.

The chase ended on 495 just before exit 17 when the suspect lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. The suspect, Gary Warren Hancock, Jr., 35, of Temple Hills, was taken into custody without incident.

Police recovered a Luger 9mm, semi-automatic handgun and a black bag containing an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect was taken to Prince George’s County Hospital Center and treated for minor wounds associated with the motorcycle crash. No police or civilians were injured during the chase.

Warren is being charged with robbery, armed robbery, first-degree assault, and use of a handgun to commit a violent crime.
