Man Charged in Bowie Armed Robbery

Police say Ernesto Rodriguez, 24, brandished a gun to steal cash from Hunan Gardens.

Police say a local man was arrested Wednesday and charged with an armed robbery at Hunan Gardens, a Chinese restaurant on Mt. Oak Road.

Bowie police gave this account of the incident: 

Police responded to a call for an armed robbery at Hunan Gardens at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The restaurant manager gave a description of the suspect, who he said brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.

The suspect took the money and fled the scene in a red SUV, according to the report. A Bowie police unit recognized the description of the suspect know subject they had recently seen in the area.

Police canvassed the area near the suspect’s home and were able to locate the vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene of the robbery. The suspect, Ernesto Rodriguez, Jr., 24, was in the vehicle, and the police recovered a handgun and other evidence.

Rodriguez was taken into custody and is facing armed robbery, theft, weapons and multiple assault charges.
