Pointer Ridge Elementary Placed Under 'Precautionary' Lockdown Monday

The students were in no immediate danger, according to police.

Pointer Ridge Elementary School was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon as police chased a breaking-and-entering suspect through the P section, according to Bowie police.

Police responded to a residential break-in in the D section Monday afternoon and found two suspects at the scene. According to Deputy Police Chief Dwayne Preston, officers were able to arrest one suspect while the second suspect fled on foot.

The foot pursuit went all the way from D section and into the P section, where Pointer Ridge Elementary is located. Authorities decided to place the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure while police looked for the suspect, though students were not in any immediate danger, Preston said.
