Pair of Armed Robberies Over Weekend Under Investigation

County police are investigating two incidents that happened within six hours of each other on Saturday night.

Prince George's County Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies at a convenience store and a gas station that took place within a six-hour period in Bowie over the weekend, according to information released by city police.

Just before 9 p.m. Saturday night, a man armed with a silver revolver robbed the Bel Air Shell on Old Annapolis Road, getting away with money and two packs of Backwoods cigars. Bowie police responded to the scene. A county K-9 unit tracked the suspect, but lost the trail in the 3700 block of Umber Place. An aerial search of the area also turned up nothing.

Early the next morning, a man wearing a black mask displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from a store employee at the 7-Eleven on Crain Highway. The employee handed over the cash to the man, who ran out the front door toward the woods behind the shopping center. Bowie police officers responded to the scene and set up a perimeter for a county police K-9 search. The track was unsuccessful.

According to reports, Saturday's robbery is the second time in less than a month that the Bel Air Shell was robbed.

On Sept. 6, a man wearing a ski mask entered the store just after 6 p.m., threw two grocery bags on the counter and asked, "Where's the money?" The suspect then pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the station employee. The employee complied, putting money from the cash register in the bags. The suspect then fled toward a rear alley.

In July, a man in a mask and gloves fired a shot into the ceiling of the Crain Highway 7-Eleven before demanding money from a store clerk. After the clerk turned over the cash, the suspect fled, running north on Crain Highway. Witnesses reportedly saw the man heading toward Ballpark Road. Aerial and K-9 searches did not locate the suspect.
