One Dies in Fatal Route 197 Wreck

Three other people were injured in the the five-car collision, police said.

One man was killed and three others were injured Friday in a five-car collision on Route 197 in Bowie

Ian Oswald Martin, 46, of Bowie died at the hospital Friday afternoon after his car collided with four others on Route 197.

Martin was traveling northbound on Route 197 near Tongue Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle, according to police. His vehicle spun into the southbound lanes and crashed into four other vehicles. Route 197 was closed for nearly four hours following the accident. 

Martin and the drivers of three of the vehicles were taken to the hospital, where police said Martin died. The three other drivers survived, but information about the extent of their injuries and their names have not been released. 

Bowie police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
