John Haston of Clinton was sentenced today for the 2011 murder of Bowie man David Williams.

Clinton man John Haston was sentenced today with life plus 20 years in jail for the 2011 murder of Bowie resident David Williams, according to a press release issued by the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.

On June 4, 2012 Haston was convicted of first degree murder, first degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.

Haston and codefendent Craig Brooks went to Williams' home on July 12, 2011 and posed as PEPCO employees to gain access to house. Williams proceeded to lead Brooks and Haston all over his home, describing electrical problems.

The two men returned to the victim’s home on July 13, when they robbed and killed him. Approximately $1,200 in cash, jewelry, a laptop and other electronic equipment were stolen.

“We are very pleased with this sentence,” said State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks in a press release.  “Mr. Haston took the life of one of our citizens and now we have taken his freedom from him.  We will not tolerate this type of violence in our communities.  My heart goes out to the family of Mr. Williams and I hope this will help in their healing process.

Brooks previously pled guilty and received a sentence of 50 years in jail and five years of supervised probation.
