Man Gets Life in Prison for Slaying Bowie Woman

Fabian Shim of Forestville was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Bowie resident Natosha Lynch.

A Forestville man has been sentenced to life in prison following his conviction in the 2006 murder of Bowie resident Natosha Lynch.

Fabian Shim, 47, was found guilty of first- and second-degree murder in Lynch’s 2006 death. Lynch, who shared a child with Shim, was found dead inside the locked guard shack of the Fed Ex facility in Beltsville where she was employed on Nov. 11.

Lynch had a “a shotgun wound to the head and left breast area,” according to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s office. No signs of sexual assault, robbery or forced entry were found at the scene.

Just prior to her death, Lynch had begun child support proceedings against Shim, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

On Nov. 12, a witness—Shim’s girlfriend at the time—called 911 and reported that Shim had confessed to Lynch’s murder and told police where they could find a car that may contain the weapon used to kill Lynch.

Following that tip, police recovered both the car and the shotgun they believe was used to kill Lynch.

Shim was originally convicted of Lynch’s murder in 2007, but that verdict was overturned by the Court of Special Appeals and he was granted a new trial.

The court determined that judge of the first trial should have asked potential jurors “whether or not anyone on the jury panel had such strong feelings about the violent death of another that they couldn’t sit and decide the case impartially based on the evidence presented,” stated the state’s attorney’s office.

Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks applauded her office's efforts and the outcome of the case.

“Mr. Shim killed the mother of his child simply to avoid paying child support,”  Alsobrooks said in a statement. “He showed a complete disregard for Ms. Lynch’s life and the future well-being of his own child, who is now growing up without a mother or a father."
