Man Convicted of 2011 Bowie Murder

John Haston has been found guilty in the murder of Bowie resident David Williams.

A Clinton man has been convicted of first-degree murder for the July 2011 killing of 44-year-old David Williams, of Bowie, according to a press release issued by the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office.

According to the release, John Haston and codefendant Craig Brooks, who previously pleaded guilty to the crimes, entered Williams’ home on July 13, where they killed and robbed him.

The prior day, Books went to the victim’s home, and gained entrance by posing as a Pepco employee, according to the release. Williams took Brooks all over his house talking about different electrical problems, states the press release.

Haston is was also found guilty of first-degree burglary,  first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.

“We are very pleased with this verdict,” said State’s Attorney Alsobrooks in the press release.  “If you murder or rob someone within the borders of Prince George’s County, we will do everything in our power to convict you and take your life away from you.”

Haston is facing life in prison plus 60 years. He sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
