Law Officials to Ramp Up Enforcement This Summer

Certain towns will receive extra attention.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is working with the county State’s Attorney’s Office, Parole and Probation, Department of Juvenile Services, area police departments and other agencies to provide a safe environment for county residents this summer.

Certain areas throughout the county will receive extra attention, although a police press release did not name those areas. The department will focus on preventing crime and will partner with the State's Attorney's office to provide arrestees and repeat offenders with so-called "wrap-around services." Those include employment opportunities, counseling and substance abuse support, according to the press release.

The State's Attorney's office will deal with properties that cause a visual or criminal nuisance and work to limit the impact of businesses that generate a high number of police calls.

"The Department maintains a strong proactive stance against crime and we are dedicated to protecting our residents," Interim Police Chief Mark Magaw said in a statement. "We want to demonstrate a united front in our fight against those that chose a life of crime and provide positive alternatives to those that want to turn their lives around."

Said State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks: "We will assist [police] by directing our community prosecutors to dedicate a substantial amount of their activities in the focus areas. We will also concentrate on enhancing our prosecutions and parole violations of those repeat offenders, who are the root of many of our crime concerns."
