High Water on Governors Bridge Road Submerges Vehicle, Traps Two Teens and Infant

Within 20 minutes, the Prince George's County Technical Rescue Team was able to get all passengers out of the vehicle safely.

At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Technical Rescue Team responded to a call of a submerged vehicle on Governors Bridge Road at the Patuxent River in Bowie. The area is prone to flooding after heavy rain storms, fire officials said.

The vehicle was occupied by 17- and 18-year-old young women—as well as an 8-month-old infant—and stalled out when the vehicle became submerged in water, according to a release from county fire officials. The slow-moving water eventually rose to seat-level in the vehicle.

According to the release, Prince George’s rescue team in cooperation with the St. Joseph Fire/EMS Station walked into the water in the road, wearing wet suits and attached to safety rope lines.
