Former Pr. George's School Bus Driver Sentenced for Driving Bus Through Building

A Namejoy, MD woman was sentenced Friday for driving a school bus through an employee lounge.

Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks announced that former county school bus driver Theresa Douglas will be sentenced for 10 years after she rammed her school bus into a employee lounge at the Accokeek school bus lot last December.

Douglas, 41, of Namejoy, MD was convicted on two counts of first-degree assault and one count of malicious destruction of property.

“This crime is the definition of absurd,” Alsobrooks said. “Ms. Douglas used a 27,000-pound bus to exact revenge against a co-worker who was not even in the building. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable and we are pleased that she has been held accountable for her actions and that her freedom has been taken away.”

On Dec. 14, 2011, when Douglas went into work, she acted as though she was driving her bus to the fuel pumps, but instead made a U-turn and slammed head-on into the center of a trailer that served as an employee lounge, court records stated. After the incident, she waited for the police and told them she drove her bus into the building and they could take her to jail.

Douglas' Facebook page became a part of the key evidence— the prosecutors showed the jury the postings from the night before the incident in which Douglas wrote that she was "done fighting, done talking and ready to go to jail," according to a release from the state's attorney's office.

The jury took only two hours to reach their verdict.

Judge Dwight Jackson sentenced Douglas to 10 years, all but five suspended and five years of supervised probation after her release.

She will also have to receive a psychological evaluation and receive treatment as a part of her probation.
