Former DC Detective of the Year Guilty of Secretly Videotaping Stepdaughter in Shower, Bedroom

A 23-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department has pleaded guilty to charges that he secretly taped his stepdaughter for nine months.

A former "Detective of the Year" and 23-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department has pleaded guilty in Prince George’s County for secretly videotaping a female family member, reports WJLA TV.

Detective Keith Tabron, 51, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of video surveillance with prurient intent in July, according to NBC Washington’s website. Prosecutors in the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office charge Tabron videotaped his stepdaughter in the bathroom as she was getting in and out of the shower, as well as in her bedroom as she was undressing.

Gina Ford, public information officer for the State’s Attorney’s Office, told Patch that the crimes occurred at Tabron’s home in Upper Marlboro.

Court records show Tabron was charged with 50 counts of secretly videotaping the victim over the course of nine months between October 2011 and July 2012. Ford said the victim was the daughter of Tabron’s estranged wife, who lives out of state. The victim was staying at Tabron’s home because she had “fallen on hard times,” Ford told NBC.

According to Ford, the victim realized she was being spied on when she noticed fresh paint in her bathroom. When she inspected the paint she found one of the cameras. The victim called a cousin who found the second camera in the bedroom. They traced the wires back to Tabron’s home office and called police, says NBC.

Tabron took a plea deal and was given a five-year suspended sentence, which allows him to escape prison time, says WJLA. He is currently suspended without pay.

This is the fourth time recently an incident has come to light involving a D.C. police officer and women or girls, says WJLA. officer Marc Washington died in an apparent suicide after he was accused of having a teen runaway take off her clothes for pictures. Officer Linwood Barnhill Jr. is accused of being a pimp in an underage prostitution ring out of his apartment. And, officer Samson Lawrence was recently accused of trying to kill his wife.

A very tough town. The good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are bad guys, too. No wonder they don't sell guns there. Only bad guys have guns - right?

Interesting. No pictures of the suspects.
Dana Ann King December 28, 2013 at 03:49 AM
That's because they look like the typical pervert!

He was practicing for his new job working for the NSA. He got confused between listening in on phone calls and video taping. Maybe he was reaching the age of retirement and needed some extra income so he was going to try his hand at porn.

No photos of the victims either, maybe the suspect will share those later. What the guy did was sick and sure he crossed a line, but jail time? How this ended was right, suspended sentence, no one hit, robbed or raped. Too many American citizens are being jailed for victimless crimes, smoking pot or doing some other drugs, not to mention how many innocent people are still behind bars for crimes they didn't commit. Then the biased Family court system in this country where a man can get tossed in jail without benefit of a jury trial. If you want to toss him into jail for being a bad cop, sure.

He's definitely a perv. She should have thought twice about living with a man her own mother decided not to live with.
warren blum December 28, 2013 at 03:12 PM
as a cop he crossed the line. i also agree with luci liu

As a P.I., I know a few cops. They are human, just like everybody else. They are divided into two groups, those with square corners, and those with 1-4 of the corners broken off. If he is guilty. he was probably doing this to jack***, not to sell the photos to porn places. His punishment should be community service, and a prescription for Viagra, and ordered to get a coupon for e-harmony.

The plea deal stinks. Tabron is a wack-job who needs a court ordered mental evaluation. This could be the tip of the old iceberg. What else has he gotten away with! With all the attention in the media, I wouldn't be surprised to see more victims coming forward....and how old was his step daughter anyway?

Rather sad for all the other Police Officers which are doing their jobs , and proudly serve their community . one would want to look at every single case He was involved in , if you can plant a video camera in your own relative bathroom and bedroom what can you do with evidences ? Just curious this is as dirty as a man can be. He does not deserve to wear the badge .
jackie miller December 29, 2013 at 08:24 AM
joel, totally agree. A sicko like him, anything is possible. Every case he was involved in, should be examined by a special team. This is not all, this perv is guilty of, just think about it, he cared nothing for his own, what did he do with the ones that weren't his own?

Why are there no pictures of the pervert?
lyn osorio December 29, 2013 at 03:59 PM
Why isn't he in prison?
Sven December 29, 2013 at 10:59 PM
Forget pictures of him - how about pictures of his stepdaughter!

so many dirty cops out there it will never stop until the higher ups do their jobs right and fire all the dirty cops and stop covering up for their wrongdoings.... Remember people what's the cops say there a brotherhood!!! they will be judged just like the rest of us and so will the good cops that cover up for them well I guess there not good if there covering up for the bad ones
Wendy Wiesenthal December 30, 2013 at 02:49 PM

and he takes disability retirement @ 2/3 pay in 3...2...1
Shaka Zulu January 02, 2014 at 08:17 AM
If he was not a cop he would be in jail as we type, he should be stripped of all retirement benefits at a minimum, do five years in the big house with people like him (a criminal) let him explain to his fellow criminals why he was taping this woman, I am sure they will make him comfortable in his cell every night.
