Firefighters Receive Awards for Rescue of 4 People

Michael Conway and Travis Murdoch rescued an adult and three 12-year-olds from a burning house on Pleasant View Drive last fall.

County firefighter Michael Conway and Bowie volunteer firefighter Travis Murdoch received awards Monday to recognize their efforts last fall in the rescue of four people from a burning house.

The rescue took place after the Bowie Fire/EMS Station No. 839 responded to the 14100 block of Pleasant View Drive on the morning of Nov. 25, according to the fire department.

The firefighters reportedly encountered heavy smoke conditions and intense heat upon entering the home. They found a fire in the living room and were able to extinguish it, according to the fire department.

Conway and Murduch worked together upstairs to rescue four female victims. Three 12-year-olds were reportedly led to an exterior balcony and onto a ladder while an adult was removed from the home by the interior stairwell.

Prince George’s County Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor presented the Emergency Services Awards to Conway and Murduch.
