Fire on Easter Displaces Two, Injures County Firefighter

A fire at a home in the Bowie section of Prince George's County sent a firefighter to the hospital.

A Prince George’s County firefighter was injured and two people displaced Sunday afternoon after a fire erupted in a Canterbury Estate home.

Firefighters responded to the house fire just before 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of Albert Drive. When they arrived on the scene they encountered heavy fire conditions in the rear of the house on the first floor with fire extending to the top floor of the two-story dwelling.

Karen Block and her daughter—who lives behind the house—said, “We saw heavy black smoke and flames coming from the house, I ran to get my cell phone to called 911 to report the fire.”

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, one firefighter was transported to a local hospital for a laceration to his arm.

The fire caused some damage to the side of a neighbors house but did not extend into the house.  Fire Investigators from Prince George’s County Fire Department were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
