Updated: Cyclist Struck by Car, Killed on Route 3

The bicyclist drifted into the travel lane and was hit by a vehicle, police say.

Update: The Washington Post reports the woman who was killed Saturday night was identified as Danielle M. Cooper, 24, of Bowie.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu that struck Cooper from behind was uninjured.

Original Post: A bicyclist was struck by a car and killed near Crain Highway and Annapolis Road around 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to police.

A woman was riding her bicycle on Crain Highway, when for unknown reasons she drifted into the southbound travel lane and was hit by a car, Maryland State Police Sgt. Christopher Hall said.

The woman's name has not been released.

The incident is under investigation, Hall said.
