Comforts of Home: Fire Station Receives Year's Supply of Charmin

Career and volunteer personnel at the Chillum-Adelphi Fire/EMS Stations accept the donation of a year's supply of Charmin.

The Prince George's County Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department received a free year’s supply of toilet paper from Charmin on Wednesday, part of a nationwide promotion by the company.

Based on a Facebook posting from a member of the Chillum-Adelphi Fire/EMS Stations, 960 rolls of toilet paper, a year’s supply for 20 firefighters, were received at the station on Riggs Road.

“It's comforting to know our work is recognized and appreciated,” said department spokesman Mark Brady. “While much can be said about this donation, we recognize it happens as a sign of job well done. We are proud to represent the State of Maryland and all firefighters within the State in accepting this very generous donation."

As part of the Charmin Relief Project, the company picked one firehouse per state to receive the free year’s supply of toilet paper. Charmin asked consumers to share stories of firehouse bathrooms with sub-par conditions or in need of relief. The company will select five firehouses across the nation that will receive a bathroom mini-makeover to transform homely to homey and pull in elements inspired from firefighters’ own homes.

Prince George’s Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor said, "We are happy to be recipients of this generous donation from Charmin and I'm confident that the Chillum-Adelphi personnel are anxious to put this donation to good use."

Chillum-Adelphi Volunteer Chief Chuck Aldridge added, "The Chillum Adelphi Volunteer Fire Department was surprised when notified. We thank Charmin for their donation, I'm sure the members of the department will greatly appreciate it."
