Bowie teen Mary Gaffney, 17, was fatally struck by a train on the CSX tracks in Riverdale Park Wednesday night, reported the .
According to police, Gaffney was walking along the tracks when she was struck by a freight train at approximately 11:44 p.m. The incident is believed to be an accident, as the train driver made several failed attempts to warn Gaffney, who was wearing headphones when she was struck.
Paramedics found Gaffney unresponsive on the scene. She was transferred to Prince George’s Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead.

I don't believe this to b an accident....who can't hear a honking freight train regardless of headphones. I hear a freight train miles from my house. I pray for her family to come to terms with this terrible tragedy and take the time to realize this teen was suffering.

I knew Mary personally. She wasn't one that I saw eye to eye with but I tolerated her because my best friend and her dated. She was a troubled child in a sense. She was also a very caring person to her closest friends. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and I hope that the train driver is not haunted for what he or she did. At least he tried to save her life. And at least she is in a better place now. RIP Mary K. Gaffney.

Anyone who talking about how she didn't hear it or saw it that doesn't matter what matters is it happened I knew her personally so I feel for her family and the train driver. So anyone who is talking about her is heartless thank you RIP Mary
