Bowie Police Offer Women-Only Self Defense Classes

The Bowie Police Department will hold free Rape Aggression Defense classes for a limited number of residents in July and August.

Bowie women interested in learning more about safety can sign up for the ’s Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) classes.

The classes will be offered in July and August at the Kenhill Center at 2614 Kenhill Dr.

RAD is a system of self defense that teaches participants methods based on real-life circumstances. The classes are for women-only, and will be taught by Bowie Police Chief John Nesky and Sgt. Bennie Henderson, both of whom are nationally certified RAD instructors.

The Bowie Police are offering two sessions this summer. Each session has five classes for 28 to 30 students and are free.

The Wednesday session begins on Aug. 1 and has only a few slots remaining. The class will meet every Wednesday from Aug. 1-29 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in registering is encouraged to call Ellen Boswell at 301-575-2480 soon to secure a spot in the class.

The Monday session, which begins on July 30, is already full.

Students who are unable to get a space in this summer’s RAD classes will be placed on a wait list and will be among the first offered spaces in the next time classes are offered.
