Bowie Police Offer RAD Self Defense Classes

Police will offer two sessions of Rape Aggression Defense self defense classes, taught by nationally certified instructors.

Local women looking to learn some new self defense techniques have the opportunity to sign up for one of two free Rape Aggression Defense—or RAD—classes offered by the Bowie Police Department in October.

RAD is not a martial arts program. Instead, it relies on realistic self defense techniques for women. According to the flyer:

"The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course whose primary focus is the realistic development of self defense options before and during situations of imminent or actual attacks. R.A.D is not a martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by nationally certified R.A.D. instructors."

Bowie police will be offering two RAD sessions this fall. There are six classes in each session. The first session will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays, beginning on October 14. The second session will be held at the same time, but on Wednesdays, beginning on October 9. Both courses will be held in the Kenhill Center, located at 2614 Kenhill Dr.

Enrollment is limited and classes fill up quickly. To register call 301-575-2015.
