Second Child Sex Abuse Conviction Adds 40 Years to Bowie Man's Sentence

Michael Brochu has been sentenced to serve a total of 81 years, which the state's attorney said "will ensure that he never harms another child again."

Michael Brochu, 52, of Bowie, was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years in prison after being found guilty in October of sexually abusing a young boy

Brochu was found guilty in October of three counts of third-degree sex offense, one count of child sex abuse, one count of second-degree sex offense, and one count of unnatural and perverted practices for sexually abusing a boy in his Bowie neighborhood.

This is Brochu's second conviction in connection to incidents involving young Bowie-area boys. He was initially indicted in August 2012 after a victim came forward and alleged he was sexually abused at Brochu's home and at a community pool. He was found guilt of multiple sex offenses and was sentenced to 41 years after being found guilty in that case.

The victim connected to October's conviction said Brochu abused him at a community pool and at a race track in Bowie, according to the state's attorney's office.

“We are very pleased with this verdict,” Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a statement. “This sentence, on top of the 41 years Mr. Brochu received for his first conviction, will ensure that he never harms another child again.”

Brochu still has one trial pending where he will face similar allegations of sexual abuse. That trial is scheduled for March 4, 2014.
